from ewe to you
We are flooded with what appears to be choices in the marketplace, but how much do we know beyond the marketing stories? Recently, American Apparel and Edun have shifted attention to means of production and built it into their brand stories. Christien Meindertsma makes us look back even further on the chain of production to the source. Her compelling “real sheep” project features articles made from the wool of one sheep until it runs out. Large ones yield a sweater, scarf and gloves. The variations in color are those of the sheep. Pictured is a sweater and scarf made from the wool of one fine ewe; a biography with details about the sheep that provided the wool and artifacts like prize ribbons are provided with sweater.

Fake London, probably.
