Great Interspecies Love Stories
Posted on 12.13.05 by Emily

As King Kong’s release date approaches, other great interspecies love stories come to mind this morning. The diversity of form love arrives in never fails to amaze me.

Owen and Mzee
The ongoing devoted friendship of Owen, the baby hippo rescued in Kenya after the tsunami, and Mzee, a tortoise over 100 years old.

Keep up to date with news and photos from the caretaker’s diary at Haller Park in Mombasa, Kenya.

Kamunyak and the Oryx
lioness&oryx5
In Samburu National Park, Kamunyak, a young lioness adopted a baby oryx antelope, fiercely and tenderly protecting her even at the expense of her own basic needs. Check out Saba & Dudu Douglas-Hamilton’s wonderful film of their story, “Heart of a Lioness.”

And of course, Cosmo and me.
