first photo exhibition at pace macgill gallery

Thrilled to learn a friend had seen my photos at the Pace/MacGill Gallery (32 E 57th St, 9th Fl NYC 10022) as part of a intriguing exhibition/project called selfportraitr: curating the flickr.com community. They are part of a very select group chosen by esteemed judges (i.e. all photos on flickr tagged “selfportrait” are automatically filtered into the exhibition).

The collaborative, participatory nature of the exhibition makes it interesting. Viewers vote for favorites and create categories on site (through August 25, 2006) or online, thereby becoming curators and shaping the exhibition. Anyone can participate as an artist by posting photos to flickr with the tag “selfportrait”. The project will result in a print exhibition of 50 images chosen as favorites by the community.

You don’t even have to go to the gallery to participate in this Flickr Exhibit at the Pace Macgill Gallery. My friend and Emily Davidow describes it on her blog. ……
