Sexy Beijing – Lost in Translation
Posted on 11.23.06 by Emily

So charmed by this episode of “Sexy Beijing” today. (Thanks, Niblettes!). Su Fei (Anna Sophie Loewenberg) cracks me up lamenting her Chinese name (Su Fei is also a prominent brand of maxipads) and exploring why and how Beijing citizens got their English names with gentle humor.

Since my Chinese name, 戴維道 (Dai Wei Dao, a transliteration of my last name given by my beloved Chinese teacher in 8th grade), turned out to be curiously masculine, I’m laughing with you.

Enjoying also the Hard Hat series of short videos on happenings in Beijing and China at DanWei.TV.
